DIARY 5 OF BRENT

11/13 THURSDAY

THE FORMER treatises my hand has made, in which my first, double, life, was on display from IEP to SAT to ESV to ABC to XYZ to ETC, is now over, and my 36 Life, or Second Life, now beginneth. This is the First Day of Writing in my Diary.

12:33 PM I get up at Noon when Josh N. calls me. He can't get his laptop to work. He wants to watch a movie. I offer to bring my laptop over so we can choose a movie to watch. He tells me to come over in 30 minutes, so I set my timer for 30 minutes, during which time I eat chicken nuggets and french fries for lunch and construct a Public collaborative YouTube Playlist and share the link on x. The Playlist is Star Wars and Religious. Before I leave for Joshes, I feed her 9-Lives wetfood and change her water dish.

When I get to Joshes, I set up my laptop and start watching The Arrival on Pluto, starring Charlie Sheen. I like the movie a lot so far, though it is ad-heavy. When I had left my house, I had left my phone on its charger, for it had been at low charge, so I had not taken my phone with me to Joshes. Josh had given me a New York hat for my 42'nd birthday yesterday, for which I am very Thankful. Amen. I had worn the cap to my friend Joshes house to-day. Josh calls his mom. He gets her voicemail and does not leave a message. I unpause the film and we continue The Arrival.

2:05 PM I LOVE this movie! I'm so happy!

2:25 PM Angel number 2:22 means New Beginnings.
This movie is getting very, very interesting. We pause the movie to listen to music and Truth videos.

3:05 PM I watch RAID Shadow Legends LIVE support stream. I cannot play RAID on my PC anymore because there is not enough disk space on my PC for it.

Josh wants to take a nap, so I go home and check my mail. I watch despecialized Star Wars OG Trilogy footage and update my log, then resume watching The Arrival with Charlie Sheen.

7:03 PM I have a slice of pizza for dinner and begin watching The Arrival 2 on Tubi.


I watch The Second Arrival on Tubi and the unrelated Nollywood film The Arrival Season 3 on YouTube, then watch Star Wars things, and read Revelation to Joseph June 1830 1:12-Genesis 1:23 Inspired Version, and gather books to my table to read from soon. Bye.

Some things are objectively or intrinsically esthetically pleasing and some are not, and some are in the eye of the beholder.

There is esthetically pleasing, pleasing, satisfying, then there is transcendant and then there is sublime. Dr. Zhivago (the Book) is all of these. So is The Arrivals 1 and 2 and Star Wars and Lord of the Rings/Hobbit.

Spiritual experiences transcend all these even., although they, too, can be sublime, and satisfying to the soul and spirit.

Well, it depends on the nature of the the artifact, whether in painting, sculpture or architecture, etc., and whether one ought to be aesthetically pleased or satisfied with it or not!

Josh shows me that he had bought a 2 Litre of Pepsi with his Food Stamps, and tells me that by his research, all of the agencies are still not on the same page on enforcing legislation that prohibits the purchase of candy, chips, soda or cakes, etc. with EBT Food Stamps, so I purchase a 20 oz of soda on the way to work today.  I exhort the cashier at the Store not to follow Buddha but to follow Christ. At work I set up my laptop and call Leia.
After I talk to Leia I resume The Visual Dialogue.

There is in art, the good, the better, the best and also the Godly, and also the repugnant, the distasteful, and the totally devilish, and there is also art for art's sake, art for God's sake, and sometimes in art, esthetics are in the eye of the beholder.

I watch Darth Melvin talk about Josh Lucas of Nerd Theory, and brew French Roast coffee, after shelving about 8 or so Louis L'Amour.

Demons can possess a believer, yet still be a believer, if a believer lets them in (it's like in Salem's Lot, you have to let them in for them to possess your temple, through willing invitation or some open door.) but possession have both not mean Ownership - it means stewardship - demons (devils) are literally the stewards of your temple unless and until they are cast out. I leave the bookstore, come home, remove my shirt because it is hot, and take my meds.

6:40 PM I watch Sean McDowell interview Christopher Lind and construct a simple three-hour queue.
Whatever's taught to a kid seems normal to him/her.

Me meeting and befriending Josh was the beginning of my recovery and his.

I read Genesis 1:24-31 Inspired Version and eat macaroni, cheese and Mayo for dinner.

I watch an archaeologist video about the Truth about The Pyramids in Egypt and what is beneath (them).

I get up at 2:29 AM CST and write in my journal. I cannot sleep. It is because of all the caffeine I had yesterday. I once wrote an essay using internet research for school about caffeine as a drug, citing the drug Vivarin, a caffeine pill, and concluding that caffeine is not good for you. Ay, nay. But what it effected yesterday was miracles.

Long ago, in 2005 AD, I sat in a class in a Restoration Branch, and the teacher asked the Class, what do you think could happen in 2005? I replied, the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Of course, now, 20 years later, we are 20 years closer to his soon Return than we were then in 2005.

My cat eats shredded mild cheddar cheese from atop my stove, then pads past my green Ficus plant, hops onto my prayer altar, then leaps onto the 6th story of her 9-story cat-tower and gazez out the living room window. What does she see? A mouse in England, running behind a tree, up the clock that is striking one, then running down and, being blind and one of three, gets its tail cut off with a carving knife by the Farmer's Wife? My cat rests content.

"Well, except for the math part, the actual answer to your question is going to be just a bit disappointing. In any case, here goes:



Math. The main important thing about the golden ratio (1.6180339 ...) is that it is the limiting ratio of consecutive Fibonacci numbers.



That is: the Fibonacci numbers are the sequence 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, .... Start with 0, 1 then add any consective pair to get the next one. For example, 34 + 55 = 89. Then look at the ratios: 1/1, 2/1, 3/2, 5/3, 8/5, 13/8, 21/13, ...; these approach the golden ratio.



It turns out that the Fibonacci numbers pop up all over the place. We named them after this guy Fibonacci because they turned up in a math textbook he wrote back in 1202, in an exercise about rabbit breeding (seriously). Another example: how many ways are there to tile a 2 x k rectangle with dominoes. For k = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 the answers are 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13. And it continues. The Fibonacci numbers are the answers to lots of "How many ... ?" questions. We don't necessarily encounter them too much in the math we learn in public school, but that is because such math tends not to concentrate on "How many ... ?" questions.



Physics. Since physics is 95% math, it stands to reason that things that show up a lot in math will show up a lot in physics. But the Fibonacci numbers are not going to play any kind of leading role in physics.



Art. I'm afraid this is mostly wishful thinking. Any number of people throughout history have claimed that rectangles whose sides are in the ratio 1.6180339 ... are particularly attractive. But experiments indicate that we just like rectangles that are about 3 x 5.



Biology. Green plants with a central stalk and lots of things coming out of it to the side will tend to arrange those things so that each has a good chance of getting lots of sun. One good way to do this is a spiraling arrangement where, if you count the spirals going one way and the spirals going the other way, you get consecutive Fibonacci numbers. However, it turns out that this is not nearly as common as many people suggest. But find a pine cone or a sunflower head, and do some counting, and you might get consecutive Fibonacci numbers.



On the other hand, claims that you get the golden ratio somehow out of the dimensions of mollusc shells (snails, etc.) are nonsense."

"What the Golden Ratio is, isn't too tough to explain: It's the ratio (e.g. comparing the size of two things, like "twice as big" or "ten times bigger") of two lengths with the specific condition that if you compare both lengths, comparing the smaller one to the bigger one has the same ratio as comparing the bigger one to both added together.

In terms of art and other aesthetic disciplines, there's no real significance other than some influential artists thought it looked nice. You could maybe argue that there are some objective, fundamentally mathematical "truths" behind beautiful art, but that always struck me as a bit of a post-hoc justification. Regardless of its actual (functional or empirical) significance in mathematics and nature, at a variety of moments in the history of art and philosophy, the golden ratio was viewed as something of cosmic/divine significance because of the way ancient Greeks and then other cultures influenced by them thought about geometry. So it becomes important in the history of science, art, and architecture because those people believed it to be. At this end of human history, the golden ratio is therefore of significance in that way regardless of those people having been wrong about how the universe works. It has historical importance no matter how much or how little we find it in nature now.

If you make a rectangle with sides 1 and 1+x such that the ratio of 1+x/1 is the same as 1/x, you can solve for x with xsquared - x - 1 = 0. This gives two solutions, the larger of which is the golden ratio, but it also means that it's a number whose square is 1 more than the number itself (since xsquared = x+1) and 1/x = x-1, so the reciprocal of the number is 1 less than that number. Not a huge deal in math (nothing like e or pi) but kinda spooky.

Most things get hotter when you put more energy into them. But systems held together by gravity often work the other way. For example, when a red giant star runs out of fuel and collapses, its energy goes down but its temperature goes up! We say these systems have a negative specific heat.



The prime example of a system held together by gravity is a black hole. Hawking showed—using calculations, not experiments—that a black hole should not be perfectly black. It should emit ‘Hawking radiation’. So it should have a very slight glow, as if it had a temperature above zero. For a black hole the mass of the Sun this temperature would be just 6 × 10-8 kelvin.



This is absurdly chilly, much colder than the microwave background radiation left over from the Big Bang. So in practice, such a black hole will absorb stuff—stars, nearby gas and dust, starlight, microwave background radiation, and so on—and grow bigger. But if we could protect it from all this stuff, and put it in a very cold box, it would slowly shrink by emitting radiation and losing energy, and thus mass. As it lost energy, its temperature would go up. The less energy it has, the hotter it gets: a negative specific heat! Eventually, as it shrinks to nothing, it should explode in a very hot blast.



But for a spinning black hole, things are more complicated. If it spins fast enough, its specific heat will be positive, like a more ordinary object.



And according to a 1989 paper by Paul Davies, the transition to positive specific heat happens at a point governed by the golden ratio! He claimed that in units where the speed of light and gravitational constant are 1, it happens when

Here J is the black hole's angular momentum, M is its mass, and

I flip through the many pages I have written today. I have written a lot, culled from a myriad of sources, all to get at maths, art, archaeology and science and a new sudden interest, architecture, which I do not wish to become too heavily involved in, except abstractly, in reference to the study of it in archaeology and art. I have no desire to become any kind of architect, though I desire to study some (but not all) aspects of engineering science.

I yawn, tired. My shirt is on. I will probably watch YouTube on TV until I get so tired I just need to go to bed. Euclid's Elements awaits me tomorrow as well as a boatload of other unread and part-way read books and untyped journals, and uncompiled journal years. I look up and forward. She likes it up there. Oh, fooey. I have no room anymore for a comfortable couch to sit on, or for guests to recline on. Cease all sinful activities with him and you know what I mean. (let Mark the reader understand). Don't find fault with him. If he yells at you, interrupts you and hits you, don't fight back, argue back, nor revile against the revilers. Mark, you seem to think that if we choose Celestial Kingdom and Celestial Glory that we cannot also be creative, have independent thought or our own righteous desires to learn, to love, to live, to grow, to laugh, to enjoy life, to be, just be. You think Celestial living excludes all personal freedom agency will and choice that does not 100% have something or other to do with the Scriptures or Church. We can't be painters, scholars, learners, teachers, doctors, architects or students, we just need to all live under a rock and go to Church every Sunday and Wednesday and constantly read the Scriptures until we make it to Celestial Glory and if we do anything else, or we dare to learn, be creative or have independent thought we are outside of as you say the perfect will of God and those are our weaknesses. That is how contemptuously you treat my journals calling me worldly from top to bottom for actually having a life and not lounging idly all day naked around my house, then putting my clothes on like a human being and not an ape, and playing on my computer, then taking them off again and lounging about naked all day. There are no idlers in the Kingdom of God. Learners are world-changers. DC 85 also says and The Endowment even says that we are encouraged to learn about a very wide range of subjects.
