I Ni 2:79-102

If you let go of the rod, you could eat strange meat, spurious doctrine (strange roads), fall into wickedness (depths of the fountain) or be caught up in the Pride of the world (the Building).

v.98. Nephi makes a distinction as we do between the sacred and the secular records.

I Ni 3:1-22

v. 6 Rely only on Christ and cling to his word (the rod)

vv. 16-19 are a microcosm of Jacob's parable of the Tame Olive Tree and Paul also refers to this in his Epistles.

v. 22 And..my father dwelt in a tent.  This could speak of the tent of the Canopy of the stars of outer space.
